Building cross-functional data maturity
The client's team identified a need to uplift data maturity. This investment project for an Australian based government superannuation fund, with $AUD240b funds under management, covered an investment data governance framework that was consistent with a holistic approach to data management.
THE CHALLENGE
Following a comprehensive current state assessment and development of a data strategy, the client’s Investment team identified the need to uplift data maturity through an investment data governance framework that was consistent with a holistic approach to data management.
This involved building the right architecture, systematisation of data management and creating a single source of truth. Additionally, the scope included building self-service capabilities for data reporting and analytics and upskilling teams across the organisation on best practices.
THE PROJECT
As a result of these findings, the investment data strategy project was developed.
The program was established to increase the client’s investment data maturity to a mature and managed state, enabling a trusted set of data and insights supporting investment decisions and enabling further growth and sustainability of investment services, performance and operations.
1886 APPROACH
The client had a large and complex footprint of legacy, custom data management processes and systems built around several unstructured Oracle databases, Matlab processes and Excel-based systems.
1886 were engaged in providing a complete, self-managed project and delivery team to implement the full scope of the Investment Data Strategy, which involved:
Master & reference data management
Data integration and warehousing
Data delivery tools, reporting, extracts and insights
Operational data stores
Data catalogue and lineage
OUTCOMES
Through this engagement, the client requested 1886 to scale up the team to support the broader data capability and competency uplift in the internal Data and Technology teams.
And following the scheduled foundational release, the client has requested 1886 to extend and deliver the implementation of phase two of the project.
